How does Soap Aid Work?

Did you know that travellers and hotels globally throw away around five million bars of unused soap every day?  That’s an awful lot of soap … so we decided to team up with the team from Soap Aid to challenge the status quo and the way that discarded hotel soap is treated.  We are passionate about stopping the large volumes of discarded soap that ends up in overflowing landfills which in turn impacts our environment.

What we love about Soap Aids Hotel to Hands Programme is that it is sustainable and is a scalable solution that sorts, cleans and reprocesses hotel soap into fresh, hygienic soap bars for distribution to the most vulnerable communities around the world.

How does it work?

There are 8 easy steps:

  1. Astro connects hotel partner with Soap Aid Registration
  2. Soap Aid calculates based on number of rooms payment method
  3. Hotel receives the Hotel Champion Welcome Kit from Soap Aid containing all collateral to get started
  4. Hotel commences collection of soap from guest rooms
  5. Hotel arranges pick up of soap via Soap Aid website
  6. Astro gets notified of the collection, and organises the pickup.
  7. Freight company will collect soap
  8. Hotel can load onto Soap Aid website to monitor soap collection data

Did you know?

Soap Aid has distributed over 2.9 million bars of soap from hotels around the world and has put hygienic soap in the hands of more than half a million people in communities critically needing soap.  Not only that by doing this we have saved 290 tonnes of soap from ending up in landfill.

Small Soap Bars are Having a Big Impact?

Did you know that soap in a guest’s hotel bathroom is the most utilised amenity.  Research has shown that guests who stay at a hotel for 1-2 nights, 86% of these guests at least will open and try their hotel soap bars.  Believe it or not this outranks the other popular offerings such as the TV (84%), hair dryer (36%) and even valet parking (28%).  Not only that it is used more than any of the other hotel toiletries that are offered such as body wash, hand wash and shower gel to name a few.
