ABOUT THE HOTEL BRITOMART

The Hotel Britomart opened its doors on 1st October 2020 and is New Zealand’s first 5 Green Star Hotel, as recognised by the NZ Green Building Council. Smart, soulful and contemporary, the hotel is designed to allow guests to enjoy its many amenities and the best of the Britomart neighbourhood around it.

THE CHALLENGE

Sustainable, eco-friendly hotels are businesses that focus on implementing green best practices in order to significantly reduce their environmental impact. The fundamental elements revolve around maintenance, services, logistics, products, and supplies. By adopting a green corporate culture with sustainability in mind The Hotel Britomart was focused on every aspect of the hotel’s building and service delivery, as well as showing guests they care about going the extra mile.

To ensure The Hotel Britomart had a successful launch they needed to partner with a guest room supply specialist that shared the same passion for sustainability and creating superior guest experiences. The supplier needed to be able to go back to the basics and understand what the main pain points were while travelling and what touchpoints within the room would really make a difference. This was a challenge as many suppliers did not share the same philosophy or viewpoint.

With over 20 years of industry experience, Astro has built a strong reputation as the go-to supply partner you can rely on and trust. This enticed Clinton Farley, The Hotel Britomart’s General Manager, to start discussions with Reuben Beatson, Astro’s Managing Director, roughly 18 months prior to the hotel’s launch.

Throughout the product review process it was vital three key components were considered:

2.Quality of products

3.Costs

Choosing the right bathroom amenities wasn’t always considered through the same sustainability lens, but now it’s just as important as choosing the right bedding. The Hotel Britomart was focussed on changing this and wanted bathroom paper products that were focussed on being better for the environment whilst being socially responsible ‘6 For Good’ paper products were developed.

Through local partnership initiatives, 6 For Good is dedicated to promoting sustainability and raising awareness for six charities that help disadvantaged kids. Complying with social and environmental standards the 6 For Good luxury embossed toilet paper and soft facial tissue are FSC Certified, meaning the paper has been socially and economically harvested to promote the practice of sustainable forestry worldwide. Additionally, all of the plastic has been removed from the packaging to help maintain the health of the land and oceans.

With the 6 For Good program not only are the charities getting the financial contribution they need to reach many children, but the exposure they receive from having the 6 for Good products in The Hotel Britomart is astounding.

As a result, The Hotel Britomart wanted to offer premium sustainable guest room touchpoints to lead both social and environmental change.
